Speech Therapy for a Brighter Tomorrow

Language Development

on September 3, 2013

Q: My daughter is 2 years old and can only say a few words (mama, dada, and ball). Is this normal for a child her age?
A: Something to keep in mind is that all children develop at different rates. However, most children are able to say at least 50 words by 24 months. They should also be able to use 2 and 3 word phrases to talk about and ask for things as well as follow directions and understand new words easily. For a full list of speech and language developmental milestones go to and click on the developmental milestones tab.
