Autism

April is Autism Awareness Month

This month I’d like to bring attention to Autism.  Here are some facts.

Currently 1 in 88 children are diagnosed with Autism and 1 in 54 are boys.   Autism is a neural disorder characterized by impaired social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication, and repetitive behaviors.  If you have concerns regarding your child and Autism signs to look for include;

-No big smiles or other warm, joyful expressions by six months or thereafter

-No back-and-forth sharing of sounds, smiles or other facial expressions by nine months

-No babbling by 12 months

-No back-and-forth gestures such as pointing, showing, reaching or waving by 12 months

-No words by 16 months

-No meaningful, two-word phrases (not including imitating or repeating) by 24 months

If your child is diagnosed with Autism there are many resources and support groups available.

Please contact us for more information and let us know if we can help.
